QuickSilver provides this magic through a kind of identity laundering. Using a special high secuirity protocol, called 'mixmaster', your outgoing message will be multi-encrypted and sent through a series of remailers. These are available around the world. Today some 45 or more remailers exist. Each server has a single purpose, That is, to accept a message, strip away all traces of it's origin--substituting its own--and send it on to either another remailer or the actual recipient. It is this process (encrypting + remailing) that makes your mail untraceable and unreadable to all but the intended recipient.
I would like you to understand that mixmaster is not written by me. It is designed and implemented by cryptologists and computer security experts. I am honestly not worthy of those positions. On the other hand, I get to write the human interface. This is very fortunate for me since it is my work you actually see. However, QS is only a simple email program with extensions for handling mixmaster messages. The magic that mix performs is do to the efforts of others. They are my heros.
If you would like to try QuickSilver, you can download it right now. Read Welcome.txt for more info.

What is QuickSilver?
QS is a mixmaster email client program. That is to say, QS
is software used for sending anonymous mail via Mixmaster
remailer chains. QS, itself, does not contain any cryptographic
algorithms. Instead, it serves as a Win95 GUI "front end" to
Ulf Möller's excellent Mixmaster Version 3 (currently 2.9beta).
If you are sending anon messages or posting anon articles to
newsgroups, QS may be for you.
QuickSilver does not require Mixmaster to run. Without Mix,
'Secure Mode' and remailer 'chaining' will be unavailable. In
other words, you can install QS and look it over, get the feel
of the program and send some mail (not encrypted) before
deciding to install Mixmaster. In the end, I think you'll like
QS and you'll want Mixmaster.
This is beta software. Please bear with me while I correct
problems. Thanks.

1. Program Features
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
. Intuitive, easy to use Windows MDI interface
. Lightning fast, compact, 32bit Win95 program written in C++
. Sends mail via Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
. Message size limited only by practicality and individual
remailer config
. Supports file attachments in MIME format
. Supports Ulf Möller's new 32bit Mixmaster 3, for Win95
Other than Mixmaster, QS uses no dlls, ocxs, etc
. Install & uninstall software included--QS and Mix
. Create templates for frequently used messages
. Mailboxes for filing messages
. Message queue--compose offline
. Easy to use 'Secure Mode'
2. System Requirements
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Win95-8
2. Mixmaster Version 2.9b
3. VGA/SVGA Monitor
4. Mouse
Both RAM memory and disk storage requirements are quite modest.
If you can run Win95 then you can run QuickSilver.
Large attachments may cause problems on systems with limited RAM.
Mixmaster 2.9b is not actually required to run, but if you like
my program, you'll certainly want the functionality provided by
Mixmaster.
3. If you use Mixmaster 2.0.4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QuickSilver is system friendly and can co-reside with previous
versions of mix, pgp, and other remailer client software.
Versions of Mixmaster prior to 2.9 used the environment variable
"MIXPATH" to inform mix where to find its config files. Mixmaster
2.9 can use the Win95 registry for this purpose. IMPORTANT: If
you run 2 versions of mixmaster, they require SEPARATE
directories.
4. Installing QuickSilver
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QuickSilver is distributed as a self-extracting zip file. You
can run it straight from the directory you downloaded to.
Double-click the exe file and the 'Setup' program will take it
from there. You'll need to know your real email address (duh!)
and the server you send your regular email through. Setup
copies files to the specified home directory, creates a
program group and creates a QS registry key. QuickSilver
Uninstall is included.
The same distribution 'exe' file is used for new installs and
upgrades. If you are upgrading, your QS database ('qs.dbc' or
'qs.pgp') will be perserved during the install. Of course, this
is beta software. You might want to make a copy of that file.
5. Downloading Mixmaster 2.9
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To get Mixmaster you should use the QS Update Wizard. Click
'Help|Update Wizard' on the QS main menu. This facility handles
all QS, QS plugin, and Mixmaster updates.
6. Installing Mixmaster
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
See topic 5 above.
After you've downloaded Mixmaster, put that zip file in the
QuickSilver home directory. The next time you start QS, it will
be installed for you. A windows registry key for Mixmaster will
be created and Mix's home directory ('MixDir') will be stored
there. Uninstall for Mixmaster is included in QuickSilver
Uninstall.
7. Technical Support
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is my belief that QuickSilver is intuitive and easy to use.
I'll go out on a limb here and say...the learning curve is not
steep. You should be able to send your first anon email within
minutes of completing installation. Please read the included
document 'QuickStart.rtf'. It will outline the use of anonymous
messages and hopefully get you going without aggravation.
In addition to direct email, I will handle tech support issues
in the newsgroup 'alt.privacy.anon-server'.
If you like my program, I can add further functionality. But
first I must correct any problems you folks find for me. You'll
find a Bug Report available, click 'File|New|Bug Report'.
Thank you for your interest in QuickSilver.
