Intership—the greatest threat posing on U.S. citizens’ job prospects?

In North America, internship has always been very popular among graduates as well as companies. It is perhaps the best way for graduates to fit into the future career, and it is also the cheapest way for companies to locate its future staff.

Internship has always been connected with university, because the procedure is that university recommends its students to companies. With the development of the internet, the name of “online university” appeared more often with the word “internship”, there are 2 reasons: online university usually provides the most desired(by the job market) degree; online university usually has a much better computer database network which is connected to hundreds of intern companies or headhunters.

Many famous universities paid a lot of attention to their internship plan. For example: Boston University has internship contract with many Financial Corp. in Wall Street; University of Southern California has internship contract with many biological or chemical companies across the states; McCann University even guarantees internship for ALL its bachelor or master graduates, etc.

The involvement of online university with internship has brought a brand new issue. Talented overseas students can apply for an American online university and got working visa by internship within a very short period of time. And these talents normally would become standard employees after their internship expires, because they are often willing to work harder with a lower pay.

Several groups claiming to stand for U.S. citizens’ right are already aware of this posing threat. They plan to plead the government for a new enforcement on VISA for internship. Namely they wish the U.S. consulates all over the world to hesitate or even stop on VISA for internship. This may certainly undergo some time and process. 1 year or 2 years? However, there are different voices saying that the Melting Pot shall not stop accepting new talents, because that is where the competitiveness of U.S.A. comes from.
